Morihei Ueshiba, O’sensei (the great master) , writes in his book that aikido refers to BUDO; But whats the meaning of BUDO? In kanji font, BUDO contains two parts((BU)) and ((DO)) that each one have a special meaning for it self; DO means the method that its example used in aikido, but whats the meaning of BU ?
Kanji font, that was token out from chinese font, that was made from the shapes and drawings, in the shape of these words two meanings was lied and BU was made from mixing these two meanings.
One of these meanings is hug, a word that refers to katana (japanese sword); In encient times humans were fight to geter with their body then with using the branchs and sharpened rocks and making the spears; After so many years the iron was discovered and the swords were rised; Now every body that was saw the BU remembers katana and because of that it sais as hug.
But the second meaning implies in the word is defend, it means that when we see the sword remeber the fight not our friends or relatives!!! Although the actual meaning of BU is to avoid the fighting and pilling the sword, and how to preventing the damage when somebody attack us, in aikido we learn that how we can preventing or guiding the fight in our favor.
O’sensei writes in his book that BUDO is the method of preventing the fight with circular movements.
